PROF. Paul Dendale

Head of the Department of Cardiology, Jessa Hospital, Hasselt, Belgium
Professor of Cardiovascular Pathophysiology, Hasselt University
President-elect European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation

What do you expect from your involvment with the congress ?

EACPR is interested in innovative techniques to promote preventive cardiology and rehabilitation. Several members of EACPR are involved in clinical studies of telerehabilitation, a new technique to coach patients with coronary heart disease or heart failure toward more compliance with preventive medication and a healthy lifestyle. As classical forms of hospital based rehabilitation reach only a small percentage of eligible patients, new methods are needed. Bringing together clinicians and technicians will result in a much needed acceleration in the introduction of telerehabilitation and telecoaching.

What type of professionals will you be most looking forward to meeting on site ?

We hope to see interaction between people involved in all aspects of telemonitoring and telerehabilitation : clinicians, engineers, lawyers, data security and privacy experts, big data experts, health Insurance experts etc.

According to you, what would most help eCardiology and eHealth to grow in the very near future ?

At this moment, several studies have shown that e-Cardiology as done in telemonitoring of heart failure or in telerehabilitation is clinically effective, as well as cost effective. At this moment, providing a solid European solution for the remaining questions about legal and data safety aspects, as well as a good reimbursement by health Insurance is the much needed step in the further development of e-Cardiology.
